ReSTOR

Approved on March 21, 2005 by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), AcrySof® ReSTOR® is the first and only IOL that uses apodized diffractive technology to provide cataract patients with and without presbyopia a quality range of vision. This new installed lens, gives patients the ability to see near and far and have “ReSTORed” vision. In clinical trials, 80 percent of patients reported "never" wearing reading glasses or bifocals following bilateral cataract surgery. The vast majority of patients who undergo cataract surgery today receive traditional IOLs, which typically require patients to use reading glasses or bifocals for near vision following surgery. Recently, Medicare approved to cover a portion of this procedure for its patients.

This procedure was designed for patients who; are motivated to reduce their dependency on glasses, cataract patients with or without presbyopia, cataract patients who want the ability to see near and far. ReSTOR® is an innovative lens designed with steps of 1.3 to .2 microns giving the patient the ability to see near and far. Acrosof’s ® other predecessors to ReSTOR ® offered monofocal vision while the ReSTOR ® lens offers patients a full range of vision resulting in the highest level of spectacle freedom demonstrated in IOL clinical trials.

AcrySof® Toric Intraocular

The technology behind the AcrySof® Toric IOL offers precise astigmatic correction that reduces or eliminates corneal astigmatism and delivers significantly improved distance-vision without glasses or contacts for cataract patients with pre-existing astigmatism. With the AcrySof Toric lens, your distance vision can be clear and vibrant.

Until now, the most common lens implants offered only correction for near-sightedness or far-sightedness. This means, after the natural is extracted and a new acrylic lens is inserted, a patient with astigmatism is still reliant upon spectacles to see clearly.

Using principles similar to toric contact lenses, Alcon Laboratories has developed the AcrySof Toric intraocular lens to provide individuals with distance vision and astigmatic correction after natural lens extraction surgery. This type of IOL enables many patients with corn eal astigmatism to function adequately without spectacle dependence for distance vision.
