Toyos Clinic was established in 1998 when Dr. Rolando Toyos was called by a recruiter from St. Judes Children's Hospital who was looking for an Ophthalmologist to staff a Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit in Jackson Madison Medical Center in Jackson, Tennessee. Dr. Toyos was responsible for eye care at the NICU for 10 years and was also the Medical Director of the Jackson Madison Surgery Center. He opened a clinic in Memphis when the Memphis Grizzlies asked him to be the team's Ophthalmologist. A position that he held for several years. Melissa Toyos, MD became a partner in Toyos Clinic in 2014. She was previousily a partner in one of the largest practices in the country Discover Vision in Kansas City.

To stay current on what’s new in Ophthalmology the clinic established a research team to conduct various FDA and non FDA studies. We have won countless awards and grants for our research like the Lieberman Award, ASCRS Grant, Harold Stein Award, Earl Young Prize, and James Scholar Award. We have been able to develop technology and techniques that are being utilized by eye doctors throughout the world.
We are teaching the future doctors of the world with rotations for students from the Southern College of Optometry and University of Illinois Medical School. Doctors from over 20 countries have come to study and observe the clinic’s systems and techniques. We have grown from a one doctor practice with a handful of employees to a multiple doctor practice with several locations.
We have used this success to provide care to the less fortunate in the community and abroad free of charge. We continue to push ourselves to achieve excellence without forgetting that our focus is the person who is our patient. Come see the difference at Toyos Clinic.
Our focus is the person who is our patient.
Toyos Clinic believes in giving back to the community financially and with the donation of time. The clinic has donated over a 1,000,000 dollars in money, services, and care. The practice also participates in the American Academy of Ophthalmology program for the uninsured called the Eye Care America project where uninsured patients that need care can come to the clinic and receive free exams.
